Introduction

There are various things that affect the quality of life and health.A series of research have shown that the quality of life and healthy is attributed to the kind of diet one takes and the level of physical activity. In addition, the studies have shown that ones health and quality of life is affected by the kind of life style one lives. In this case, people who exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet have good health and are likely to live longer. In addition, people who have adopted a better lifestyle are likely to be more health than those who have not. Most researchers have not carried out research to determine the effect of architecture on the health of human beings. This has made it difficulty for people to understand how architecture affects human health and behavior.

Architecture affects human health in different ways. For instance, the kind of building one lives in determines his or  her  health.Buildings that are porly constructed might lead to poor health and affect quality of life. This is because the buildings can lead to diseases and even death. On the other hand, buildings that are well constructed enhance ones health and the  quality of life. For instance, buildings that are congested and have poor ventilations and drainage can lead to poor health. In addition, architecture affects how human beings behave. This paper will analyze how physical structures impact human behavior and how they control human behavior. It will also determine the environmental physiological implications of commercial design and residential desigtnn.Lastlpy, the paper will analyze the importance of architectural design in sustainable development.

Discussion

Effects of architecture on human behavior

Most people have not recognized the importance of architecture ion human behaviors. This has led to limited studies on the impact of architecture on human behaviors. Most researchers have not carried out research to determine the impact of architecture on human behavior, hence inadequate knowledge on this field. The field of environmental psychology has helped people understand the  benefits resulting firm good physical structures and the down sides of poor physical structures.Environmental psychology determines the  importance of space and human behaviors. Some of the studies have shown that architecture has adverse effects on human behavior. In this case, architecture refers to the process of establishing buildings either commercial or residential. The kind of physical structures erected determine how human beings behave.Physical structures that are poorly built lead to poor human behaviors(Rydeen, Erickson & Lange, 2008).

Most of the researchers conducted have shown that architecture affects ones mood and  productivity. The amount of space  available in a commercial building like an office determines ones productivity.Offices that are congested  lead to poor productivity. This is because people in the office are not able to work well due  to lack of space. In contrast, offices that are not congested lead to high productivity. This is because the workers in such offices are motivated to perform well.Hence, the kind of office one is in determines his or her efectiveness (Rydeen, Erickson & Lange, 2008).

In addition, the number of windows and size of windows in an office or house determine the  productivity of a person.Buildings that have the right size of windows and number are well ventilated and this improves how people work. This is  because there is fresh air in the offices and light. This reduces health problems like airborne diseases, stress and  depression. Most of employees suffer health problems that result from workplace stress. For instance, some of the employees suffer from depression due to  stress.Architecture helps improve the working environment  and thus the productivity of the employees. The amount of noise  and  toxic content  in a  building  affect human behavior.A large  percentage  of people find it hard to work in a place where there is noise pollution and waste material. This in turn lowers their productivity  due to increase in diseases resulting from waste products.Architecture helps overcome such issues. This is because architecture helps  in designing buildings properly. It helps people erect buildings in places where there is no noise population and there is proper drainage.

Moreover, parachute helps one construct buildings that are inline with human needs and  hence prevent the negative effects of physical structure on human behaviors.buildings  that have poor ventilation, small windows and inadequate space are linked with mood swings and increase in levels of  stress. It is also linked with boredom and thus low productivity (Tiwari, Pandey & Sharma, 2010).

Further, poor architecture affects the mental health of human beings.Baan conducted  a  research to determine how architecture affects mood and creativity among human beings.baan argues that poor health makes it difficulty for human beings to function well. Most people are not able to solve problems in a congested area.Baan claims that lighter and brighter spaces having good lighting increases alertness. This helps reduce  depression and decline in cognitive function. This in turn enables people function well  in terms of memory and cognitive development.Baan claims that rooms that are made for relaxation should have dark colors, dim lights and the furniture  should have few sharp edges(Baan, 2009).

In addition, he claims that lower ceiling enhances performance in tasks that are more detailed. Also, high ceilings promote creativity and memory. This was also supported by John Meyer-levy.John carried out a study to determine how architecture affects mood and creativity in 2007.The researcher argued  that the  height of a house  ceiling affects creativity and how people think. The researcher used a sample size of 100 people in his study. The participants were assigned houses having 8-10 feet ceiling. Then the participants were asked to group ten items in a list into the right category. The  findings from the study showed that participants in rooms having high ceiling gave correct  answers than participants who were in rooms having low ceilings (Baan, 2009). John noted that the height of a ceiling affects how people process information.John argued that rooms that have elevated ceiling make people feel physically comfortable and encourage them to think well than ceilings that  are not elevated (Rydeen, Erickson & Lange, 2008).

Consequently,Architecture or physical structure affects the behaviors of sick people. For instance, buildings that are not well built might affect the outcome of a medical process among the patient. On the other hand, rooms that are well built enhance the health outcome of patients. For instance, patients having dementia need structures that encourage proper memory and other cognitive functions.Hence, people constructing   buildings should be able to meet the needs of such patients (Richards, 2008).

Most of the environmental psychology researches have shown that the choice of furniture  in a building influences human interaction. The researches  focused on residential health   facilties. The researchers  noted that placing  chairs   along the hospitals limityed  interation  among the patiemts  and  other people. The researchers argied that placing chairs in a small groups  increased interaction betwen the patients and other people.Carpeting can also help increse interaction between patients and visitors. A research conducted by Debra Harris in 2000  showed that carpeting helped improve the number of hours patients spend with their families. This in turn speeded the healing process (Lytal, 2007).

How articheture can be used to control human behaviors

Artechture can affect human behaviors as evidenced  in the section above, hence it can be  used to control human behavior.Articheture can be used to eliminate bad behaviors and  enhance good behaviors among human beings. For instance, articheture can be used to control how people interact with others. The studies above have shown that hiospitals that place chairs along the wall limit intyeraction. On the other hand, hospitals that place chairs in small groups enhance the level of interaction. This implies that hospitals should encuorage chairs to be placed in small groups in the hospital so  as to encuorage interaction.in addition, people who live in crowded areas find it hard to interact with other people. This is because a large perncentage of the people are not intereasted  in interacting with other people. In addition, people living in overcrowded areas are not interested in socializing because they  have no control over their space. On the other hand, people who live in less crowded areas interact with other people as they are interested  in socializing. Also, people living in areas that are not crowed have low levels of stress and find it easy to interact with other people (Eshelman & Evans, 1999).

Moreover, artichetire can be used to control human behaviors in schools and workplace. Most schools tend to use the materials, furnitures  and  structures  that   pronmote  learning. The schools ensure the learning  structures  are  well ventilated   and  have  the necessary lighting so as to  improve cognitive functions   and  hence  good learning outcome.Additionally, most of the employers have used articheture to control employee behaviors in the workplace (Mroczek,Mikitarian, Vieira & Rotarius, 2005).

Most organizations have adopted designs that increase productivity and  efeciency in the organization. For instance, the organizations ensure the wirkplaces are well ventilated and light. They also ensure the workplaces are not congesyed as congestion  affects performance and productivity.Studies have shown that there is a correlation betwen articheture desings that meet the needs of the employee and  behaviors exhibited in the workplace.A well organized office inctreases interaction betwen the employees. This inturn helps reduce conflicts in the organization. Also, providing the right place for employees to solve problems helps increase productivity.

For instance, providing high elevated ceilings helps employees solve problems effectively due to proper functioning  of the brain. It also  helps  improve job satosfaction  among the.Employees tend to be feel more satisfied in organizations that create a good working  environment.Organizations can use articheture to control human behaviors  in the organization like high employee turn over and absentesim.A good working envioronment motivatesthe employewees to perform  well and  this helps reduce the number of  employees leaving the organization.Hence, creating a friendly artichetural enviroment at school, workplace and home helps promote positive human behaviors like prioductivity, happiness and health (Elsbach & Bechky, 2007).

Environmental psychological implications of commercial and residential design

The field of enviormental psychology has various implications on commercial and  residential desitgn.First, the envioprmental psycholoical field affects how commercvial  and  reasidential houses are built. It has influenced commercial and residential designs  interms of purpose and consideration. The construction of commercial buildings and residential buildings in the modern society is influenmced by the needs of the public. The designers are supposed to consoder the needs of  the  user when contructing buildings.Failure to involve the user leads to construction of commercial and residential buildings that do not meet the needs of the user (Mehta, 2009).

Different uswers have diferent needs. The deasigner should be able to meet the needs of the users. For example, when constructing hospitals one should construct it according to the needs of the users.Hospitals need furnitures and buildings that  can help them achioeve their objectives. Most of the hospitals  are aumed at improving the health of the patient by reducing the prevaance of diseases in the community. The designer should ensure the hospitals promote health outcome by encuoraging social interaction. Also, when contructing schools the designer should ensure the physical structures enhance learning. The buildings should be well ventilated and the furniture should have no sharp edges. In the workplace, the designer should ensure the buildings are well ventilated, have enough lighting and are spacious (Mehta, 2009).

Also, environmental psychology has an impact on how the reswidential houses are designed.Like commercial houses, the designer of residential houses is required to involve the comunity in the designing process. The designer should ensure the residential houses meet the needs of the users. The designer should ensure the residential houses are built far from noise areas. This is because noise causes destruction at night and during the day.In addition, the designer should ensure the houses are well ventilated, soacous and have enough lighting. Also, the houses should have proper drainage so as to prevent diseases. Thus, enviopromental psychology influences residential design and commercial design in terms of use and consideration (Architecture and health, 2007).

Importance of architectural development in sustaining sutainable development

Sustainable development refers to the ability to meet present needs withouth compromising meeting the future needs.Architecural development is  important in sustainable development. This is  because it enhances conservation of  resources in the  country. Most countries have faced various challenges rezulting  from sustainable development. The countries have found it  hard to utilize the resources available to meet their social and econmical needs. This has made it hard for the countries to exprience enough growth.Lack of arcitectural development has led to such issues. The artichectural development helps overcome such challenges in various ways.

First, architectural development  helps ciountries use the resources  availanle to meet their social needs and other needs. In addition, artichetural development helps minimize the impact of development on the enviorment by promoting the natural enviorment. It can also help prevent use of toxic  chemicals and hence prevent causing harmful effects to human beings and destroying the enviormwent. Moreover, artichetuiral development helps countries achieve sustainable development  easily. This is because the countries are able to design the right physical structures and the right place (Architecture and health, 2007).

Conclusion

Artichecture contributes alot to human health and behaviors. The kind of physical structures available determine the kind of behavior human beings depict.Good physical structures promote good human behaviors. On the other hand bad structuires lerad to por behaviors.Articheture affects behaviors like mood, creativity and cognitive functioning and also mental health.Good structures enhance mood, creativity, cognitive functioning   and mental health. For instance, houses that have high ceiling enhance memory  and  creativity  unlike houses that are low.

In addition, architecture affects human health. For instance, hospitals construct buildings well to meet the needs of the patients. They also ensure the chairs in the hospitals are placed in smallgroups so as to enhance interaction betwen patients and vistors. This in turn hel;ps improve the health of the patient.Articheture can be used to control behaviors of patients, employees and other peopple. For instance, it can be used to control employee productivity. In addition, enviormental psychology has implication on commercial designs and residential designs. It influences how commercial houses and residential houses are built. The designers consider the needs and the use of the structures when constructing them.Artichectural design helps enhance sustainable development in a country by enabling the cpuntry utilize the resources available.
