Papa John’s Inc. said it is looking for at least a 50% increase in its staff to fill out its business processes and support staff as it seeks to reduce costs.
“We are in the process of hiring more staff and are still looking for opportunities,” CEO John Schnatter said in a blog post.
He said the company will start a pilot program in New York City and other cities soon to recruit additional help.
The company, which operates restaurants in more than 100 countries, has about 2,600 full-time employees and plans to hire a minimum of 10 new full-timers by the end of March, he said.
Schnatter is one of the highest-paid CEOs in the world.
He earned $1.5 billion last year and $1 billion last quarter.
The news follows a record year for the company, up nearly 20% in revenue and earnings.
It said it lost $13.3 billion in the first three months of the year.
Papa John said it has added 200 new positions in the past year.
Last year, the company lost $1,979 million.
